FHSA announces the opening of one (1) Director-At-Large seat for the FHSA Board of Directors. This seat was left vacant by the departure of Angel Maldonado, who served under the Parent Affiliate Group with Lutheran Services of Florida. His term expires on September 30, 2021.  The selected individual will have an option to continue to serve in this seat for an additional two more years should they so desire. 

Per the Association By-laws, these seats must be filled by members from the following Affiliate Groups: Staff, Parent, and Friends.  Grantees, Programs, & Agencies are limited to one representative serving on the Board of Directors at any given time. If you meet the criteria and have been contemplating getting more involved in your State Head Start Association, NOW is the time. As a member of the FHSA Board, you will help direct the future of the association. FHSA will be accepting self-nominations to serve on the Board until Tuesday, May 18, 2021.

Some of the primary responsibilities as an FHSA Board member

  • Oversee the direction of the association
  • Lead specific projects, committees, and action teams
  • Assist with the recruitment of new members
  • Ensure a robust and balanced budget
  • Contribute to the association's financial success
  • Represent FHSA in the community; participate in conferences and meetings.

Below are the classifications of each membership level.

  • Staff Affiliate Group: is a person employed by a grantee/program/agency that does not belong to any other membership group. 

  • Parent Affiliate Group: is a parent or legal guardian of children who are currently enrolled or has been enrolled in a Head Start/Early Head Start program within the past year. 

  • Friends Affiliate Group: There are two levels under this category of membership
    1. Non-Affiliated Individual Friends Group: is an individual not part of the Directors, Staff or Parent Group and are grantees CEO's, and board members, individual funders, and grantors. Members of this group pay a separate $50 membership fee to FHSA per year. 

    2. Non-Affiliated Corporate Friends Group: is an organization, firm, corporation, or any individual consultant engaged in selling, marketing, and/or promoting products and services to the association. Members of this group pay a $250 membership to FHSA per year.
