Advocacy

The Florida Head Start Association (FHSA) is committed to championing the needs of the 45,000 children and families served by Florida's Head Start, Early Head Start, Migrant, and Seasonal Head Start programs. As a statewide organization, FHSA collaborates closely with early childhood education programs, the Florida Head Start Collaboration Office, the Florida Office of Early Learning, and the Florida Department of Children and Families to ensure that Head Start programs receive the support they need.

At FHSA, advocacy is about "telling the story"—highlighting the profound impact Head Start programs have on children's development, family empowerment, and community growth. Through strategic advocacy efforts, we work to protect funding, promote program success, and expand awareness of Head Start’s role in shaping Florida’s future.

FHSA actively engages in initiatives that amplify Head Start’s voice:

  • Children’s Week at the State Capitol – Elevating early childhood education during Florida’s largest child advocacy event in Tallahassee.
  • Legislative Engagement – Encouraging programs to host legislators and local officials for site visits, providing firsthand insight into Head Start’s transformative impact.
  • Federal Advocacy – Educating federal lawmakers in Washington, D.C., on the importance of safeguarding Head Start funding.
  • Supporting National Advocacy Efforts – Partnering with the National Head Start Association (NHSA) to advance policies that strengthen Head Start programs nationwide.

Through these efforts, FHSA remains steadfast in its mission to empower members to advocate, lead, and enhance the education, health, and social services provided to families by Head Start—ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.
