Parents Are Children’s First Teachers: Does our practice reflect that belief?

Head Start is one of the earliest Early Childhood Care and Education programs intentionally designed with the understanding that to effectively support young children’s growth, development, and learning, we must attend to the needs of the family. Head Start and Early Head Start are designed as two generational approaches to support kindergarten readiness and long-term social, emotional, and academic success. Through this session, the team from the Early Childhood Policy Research Group at the UF Anita Zucker Center for Excellence in Early Childhood Studies will share an evidence-based framework for family engagement. This will be followed by an interactive dialogue with attendees regarding how family engagement is currently supported through everyday practice and identify opportunities for how it can be expanded and celebrated.
