  1. FHSA is pleased to announce that two of our State Association Honorees are being recognized by the National Head Start Association. Congratulations to Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) in partnership with Reach Out and Read Florida and Philip Tavill, President & CEO of Children First, Inc. in Sarasota, FL joins a list of highly accomplished leaders making notable and significant contributions in our State to help improve the lives of at-risk children and families.

  2. On March 28, 2023, the Office of Head Start published guidance through ACF-IM-HS-23-01 The Role of Head Start Programs in Addressing Lead in Water. Head Start programs have a critical role in preventing lead poisoning in children. Programs are required to maintain a facility that is free from pollutants, hazards, and toxins that are accessible to children and could endanger their safety — and that includes lead in water and paint. As part of Head Start monitoring, programs can expect to be asked about their processes to identify and mitigate lead hazards. This Information Memorandum highlights available resources for programs specifically addressing lead in water.

  3. The Florida Alliance of Children’s Councils & Trusts week three Capitol Connection is now available. This update provides information on all proposed legislation related to children, youth, and families in Florida.

Please visit our WYNTK resource webpage, which is updated regularly, and the FHSA events list for more information. If there is something else you need guidance on, let us know - we will continue to work with state agencies and partners to answer your questions.

Sincerely,

Wanda Minick
