The Florida Head Start Association Welcomes Kathy Vega
to the Board of Directors

Strengthening Leadership for Florida’s Head Start Community

Tallahassee, FL – February 26, 2025 — The Florida Head Start Association (FHSA) is proud to announce the appointment of Kathy Vega as the newest member of its Board of Directors, serving in the Southeast Director seat. The FHSA Board approved her appointment during its February 11 board meeting.

With 36 years of experience in Early Childhood Education, Vega currently serves as Associate Executive and Head Start Director at RCMA, one of Florida’s largest multi‑grant organizations supporting vulnerable children and families. Her deep roots in Head Start began as a farmworker parent in RCMA’s Migrant and Seasonal Head Start program. From there, she built a distinguished career serving as Teacher, Family Service Worker, Center Director, and Regional Coordinator, ultimately rising into executive leadership.

“Kathy brings a powerful combination of lived experience, professional expertise, and unwavering commitment to Florida’s children and families,” said Wanda Minick, Executive Director of FHSA. “Her voice and leadership will strengthen our Board and elevate the needs of the Southeast region as we continue advancing Head Start’s mission statewide.”

Vega remains deeply committed to expanding opportunities for children and families in her community and across the state and will help guide FHSA’s strategic priorities, support regional engagement, and contribute to statewide advocacy efforts on behalf of Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
