Undiagnosed and untreated vision disorders can impair student development, lead to behavior problems in the classroom, interfere with early literacy and learning, and lead to permanent vision loss if not detected and treated early. This session provides information about evidence-based tools to help find these children. This webinar is the first of a 2-part webinar series; the second (in the fall) will focus on helping families access eye care and treatment.

Learning Objectives:

  • List vision screening tools from birth through high school.
  • Describe the relationship between poor vision and learning.
  • Describe resources to share with families about the importance of vision screening and scheduling and attending a follow-up eye examination when their children do not pass a vision screening.

Who Should Attend?

Anyone who screens the vision of children from birth through high school and those who follow up with parents/guardians after a vision screening referral.

Presenter: P. Kay Nottingham Chaplin, EdD
