Sesame Street and APA: How to Integrate Racial Justice Into Your Work With Children
Monday, March 06, 2023, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM EDT
Category: National Training or Event

ll kids need a strong individual and group identity, but racism hurts the healthy development of both. As a field, psychology has a critical role to play in dismantling systemic racism and psychologists have a responsibility to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the children in your care. Engaging honestly and directly with little ones is the beginning of building your racial literacy (i.e., the skills needed to talk thoughtfully about race and to identify and respond to racism).

Join APA and our partner Sesame Street in Communities to explore resources that celebrate race and encourage healthy conversations between kids and their caregivers about racism.

Speakers:

  • Maysa Akbar, PhD, ABPP, APA Chief Diversity Officer and Interim Chief of Psychology in the Public Interest
  • Antonio Freitas, MS, Director of Educational Experiences for the US Social Impact team at Sesame Workshop

Over the course of this FREE 45-minute virtual workshop, participants will:

1. Learn about the platform Sesame Street in Communities
2. Explore Sesame Street resources connected to racial justice and
3. Discover opportunities to share these resources with children, caregivers, and other providers.

Can’t attend at that time? Register anyways to receive the recording after the live event.
