Director-At-Large Candidate, Steve MartinVyStar, Business Development Leader
For over a decade, I’ve had the privilege of partnering with Orange County Head Start through VyStar Credit Union, where our shared commitment to empowering families and supporting children has never wavered. Head Start’s mission—to uplift future generations through education, health, and social services—deeply resonates with me both personally and professionally. Serving on the FHSA Board of Directors is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a vision I believe in: a future where all Head Start families thrive. I’m eager to support strategic growth, strengthen statewide partnerships, and help shape decisions that advance equity and opportunity for Florida’s children. This role also offers a chance to expand my leadership in service of a cause that has long felt like family. Over the years, I’ve watched children step into classrooms with curiosity and leave with confidence. I’ve seen parents empowered through resources and relationships. And I’ve seen staff pour their energy into building futures that many families never thought possible. That’s why I want to serve on the FHSA Board of Directors, because I believe in this mission with everything I’ve got. Head Start doesn’t just change lives; it transforms communities. And FHSA’s vision of a future where all Head Start families thrive is one I’m proud to stand behind. Serving on the board would allow me to help guide that future, using both my experience and my passion to make sure every decision reflects the values we share. What skills and talents would you bring to the FHSA Board of Directors? As a U.S.Air Force Veteran and active Treasurer for our VET’S VRG-(Veteran Employees that Served Vystar Resource Group) and a Financial Leader I bring a strong foundation in finance, fundraising, and compliance, core areas that are essential to sustaining and expanding Head Start’s impact. Through VyStar, I’ve helped connect Head Start programs with new funders, community partners, and financial literacy resources that support both children and families. My professional background is complemented by a deep respect for lived experience and inclusive leadership. I believe in the power of diverse perspectives to strengthen board governance and drive innovation. I’m honored to be a two-time national award recipient for my work with Head Start, including the Edward Zigler Innovation Award (2019–2020) and the Sargent Shriver Excellence in Community Service Award (2024–2025). As someone who has walked alongside Head Start programs for years, I understand the importance of trust, consistency, and shared values. VyStar and Head Start both believe in building strong foundations for children, for families, and for the communities we serve. I’m ready to bring that alignment to the FHSA Board and help lead with purpose. VyStar and Head Start share a common belief: that every child deserves a strong foundation. That belief has guided our partnership for ten years, and it’s what I’ll carry with me into board service, ensuring that every decision we make uplifts the families we serve and honors the mission we live by. |
